Here are some answers to commonly-asked questions about the Lodge Leadership
Development website.
Q: If I have pop-up blocker software installed, will that affect how I view this website?
A: Yes. You should disable any pop-up blocking software for this website
if you experience problems when clicking many of the links to document files.
Because of Macromedia Flash's behavior when clicking links to files that open
in new windows, pop-up blocker software may consider these links to be ads by
mistake.
Q: Is the Lodge Leadership Development website completely compatible for Macintosh users?
A: Yes. The move to a web-based interface for designing your LLD event
allows for more flexibility and compatibility. Though previous CD-ROM versions
of the software only worked on Microsoft Windows operating systems, the website
is fully-functional for Macintosh and other users.
Q: Do I have to completely enter all of the survey data in one sitting?
A: No. Because the LLD Event Designer program is Macromedia Flash-based,
data is stored in a "cookie" file on your hard drive. This means that you can
stop at any point during the process of entering information in the LLD Event
Designer program and your information will be saved. You can enter a couple
survey forms today and come back in a couple weeks and it will all still be
there. You must completely enter one set of data (an individual questionnaire
form) before it is saved, however. Your data will be automatically loaded when
you return to the website.
Q: What happens if I delete my temporary Internet files, cache, or stored cookies?
A: Macromedia Flash does not store its "cookie" files in the same location
as the temporary Internet files, cache, and stored cookies. Because of this,
you can clear your Internet files without worrying about your data that you
have inputted in the LLD Event Designer program; your data will still auto-load
next time you return to the website.
Q: How do I get rid of my data so that I can start over?
A: You cannot clear your data by deleting your temporary Internet files,
cache, or stored cookies. The only way to do this is by opening the LLD Event
Designer program and clicking the "Clear Data and Start Over" button. This will
erase any data in the Flash "cookie" file.
Q: Can multiple users of a computer use the LLD Event Designer program separately?
A: Yes. As long as the multiple users log in to the computer with different
usernames and profiles, the data will be kept separate.
Q: Can multiple people enter data into the LLD Event Designer program at one time using multiple computers?
A: No. The data you enter is not stored centrally on a server, so there
is currently no way to collaborate data entered between multiple users. Because
of this, there is also no way to transfer data from one computer to another.
Future releases of the software may include such a data-sharing feature.
Q: Can anyone else outside my lodge observe the data I enter?
A: No. Because assessment of lodges should only be done internally on
a lodge-level, the data is only stored locally on your computer rather than
on a central server.
Q: What do I do if the LLD Event Designer generated a schedule that does not show the topics I wanted or are not as relevant as others might be?
A: Since the LLD Event Designer program only gives suggested schedules
for LLD events, it is possible that this will happen; remember--you should make
your own actual schedule that is specific to your event date, time, and other
needs. If you simply want to change the ability level of a topic that was suggested,
you can go back to change the ability levels for your sessions. If a desired
topic was not listed at all, you can use the Search Resources page to find what
you are looking for.
Q: Why I wasn't asked to choose between multiple ability levels for a topic and my only choice is "Beginner?"
A: Not every topic necessarily has multiple ability levels. If this is
the case, a "Beginner" set of documents will be the default, though the content
of the syllabus might not necessarily be at a beginning level for your lodge.
Return to the website in the future as more updates and additional content will
be added.
